New York, July 20, 2025 — Grandmaster David Brodsky won the 13th New York International Super Swiss Championship with an impressive score of 7.5/9, finishing clear first in a competitive field of titled players at the historic Marshall Chess Club.
The tournament took place from July 16 to 20, 2025, featuring nine rounds of classical chess (G/90+30) and offering a $10,000 prize fund. Brodsky, rated 2524 FIDE, earned 15.3 rating points with a performance rating of 2667.
A Strong Performance Across All Rounds
Entering as the second seed, Brodsky delivered a consistent and unbeaten performance. He defeated FM David Camacho Campusano, IM Kevin George, GM Oliver Barbosa, IM Liam Putnam, FM Bryan Lin, and GM Maxim Novik. He also drew with GM Andrew Tang, GM Vojtech Plat, and GM Andrei Maksimenko.
Brodsky’s outright victory was secured in the final round, where he faced GM Maxim Novik (FIDE 2387) with the Black pieces. In a display of strategic precision, Brodsky dominated the game from the middlegame onward and reached a textbook example of zugzwang in the final position, where any move by White would only worsen their situation. The win brought his final score to 7.5/9, placing him half a point ahead of the field and eliminating the need for any playoff to determine the champion.
His 7.5/9 score was half a point ahead of top seed GM Andrew Tang, who finished in second place with 7.0/9. GM Mark Paragua took third with 6.5 points.

About Marshall Chess Club
Founded by Grandmaster Frank J. Marshall in 1915, the Marshall Chess Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious chess clubs in the United States. It was officially incorporated in 1922 and has occupied its current home—a historic 1832 brownstone at 23 West 10th Street in Manhattan—since 1931. The building was purchased for Marshall by a group of devoted patrons who shared his vision of creating a central hub for chess in New York, inspired by European institutions like Simpson’s Divan in London.
Over the decades, the club has nurtured generations of American talent, including notable figures such as Reuben Fine, Fred Reinfeld, and Arthur Dake. Today, the Marshall Chess Club continues to be a vital part of the national chess scene, attracting top grandmasters and rising stars alike, while preserving the legacy of its founder and U.S. Champion Frank J. Marshall, who held the title from 1909 to 1936.
